Imo State University (IMSU): A Comprehensive Overview

Imo State University (IMSU) was established by the Imo State House of Assembly on February 23, 1981, through Law No. 4 in Owerri, the state’s capital. Over the years, the university’s founding statutes were revised with Edict 27 of 1985, another in 1988, and Statute No. 2 of 1992, which ultimately relocated the university to its current site in Owerri.

Key Details About IMSU:

  • Motto: Excellence in Service
  • Type: Public University
  • Year Established: 1981
  • Vice-Chancellor: Professor Uchefula Ugonna Chukwumaeze

Initially, IMSU operated temporarily at the former Madonna High School in Ihitte. The university was founded in response to the lack of a federal university in Imo State, a region with a strong emphasis on education.
