A lecturer at the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), Kamal A. Odunjo-Saka, has alleged that his suspension is a result of exposing a ₦10 million TETFund scholarship fraud. However, the university insists the suspension is due to misconduct unrelated to his claims.

The Allegations

Odunjo-Saka, a lecturer in the Department of Psychology, claims that funds meant for his PhD program in Cyprus were embezzled by three TETFund staff members. He alleges that the mismanagement caused significant delays and financial challenges, forcing him to self-fund parts of his education. Efforts to address the issue with TETFund and FUOYE management reportedly led to bureaucratic hurdles and inaction.

The University’s Response

FUOYE responded by issuing three queries to Odunjo-Saka before suspending him.

Official Statement: The university claims the suspension was for misconduct and violation of institutional regulations.

Registrar’s View: The Registrar described Odunjo-Saka’s fraud allegations as defamatory and unsubstantiated, urging him to follow due process rather than publicizing the matter.

Vice-Chancellor’s Stance: A media adviser to the Vice-Chancellor reiterated that the suspension was unrelated to the fraud allegations, which an internal investigation deemed baseless.

Odunjo-Saka’s Appeal

The lecturer has called on Nigerians to intervene, describing the suspension as “baseless and illegal.” He insists the university’s actions are an attempt to silence him and prevent further exposure of corruption.

Current Situation

While Odunjo-Saka continues to seek redress, FUOYE has maintained its stance, urging adherence to university rules and due process. The situation highlights ongoing tensions between academic staff and university management over accountability and transparency.
