One of Nigeria’s top institutes for teacher and educational professional development is the Alvan Ikoku Federal College of Education (AIFCE). The college, which is situated in Imo State’s capital city of Owerri, was founded in 1963 as the Advanced Teachers Training College by the government of Eastern Nigeria. It was renamed in 1973 to pay tribute to Dr. Alvan Ikoku, a well-known educationist and supporter of education in Nigeria.
