Begin Your Research Career in Plant Genomics and Bioinformatics in Canada
The University of Guelph is currently accepting applications for two fully funded Master’s Graduate Research Assistantship positions starting in Fall 2025. This exceptional opportunity is offered by the Dry Bean Breeding & Computational Biology Lab within the Department of Plant Agriculture.
Whether you’re passionate about plant genetics, molecular biology, or bioinformatics, this scholarship allows you to contribute to high-impact research in food security and crop improvement—all while studying at one of Canada’s top agricultural research universities.
Scholarship Overview
- Host Institution: University of Guelph, Canada
- Degree Level: Master’s
- Field of Study: Plant Genomics, Epigenomics, Bioinformatics
- Eligible Countries: Open to all nationalities
- Start Date: Fall 2025
- Deadline: Not specified (apply early)
- Scholarship Type: Fully Funded (tuition + stipend)
Research Focus
The project aims to investigate seed coat color stability and darkening in cranberry and pinto beans using cutting-edge multi-omics technologies, including:
- Genomics & Epigenomics
- Hyperspectral Imaging
- GWAS & EWAS analysis
Seed coat darkening reduces the market value and shelf-life of beans. Your work will support the development of non-darkening bean varieties—a breakthrough for global food markets.
Scholarship Benefits
Selected candidates will receive:
- Full tuition coverage
- Living stipend (amount not specified)
- Hands-on research experience at a leading lab
- Collaboration with University of Toronto Scarborough on epigenomic data
- Access to state-of-the-art genomics platforms
- Opportunities to publish and present research at conferences
