What the Scholarship Covers

Who Can Apply? (Eligibility Criteria)
To qualify for this opportunity, you must:
- Be a citizen and resident of an African Union member state
- Be classified as an international fee-paying student
- Be self-funded (including those using repayable student loans)
- Hold a Bachelor’s degree with a grade that meets Essex’s entry requirements (integrated Master’s degrees are acceptable)
- Be admitted into your first year of a full-time, on-campus postgraduate taught course (MA, MSc, LLM, MFA, MPP, MBM) at Essex, beginning in October 2025 or January 2026
- Not hold any other University of Essex scholarship or financial award
- Be open to participating in promotional or ambassadorial activities for the university
Note: Postgraduate qualifications (aside from integrated Master’s) cannot substitute for a low undergraduate grade.
No Separate Application Required
You don’t need to submit a separate scholarship application. Once you apply to an eligible Master’s program at the University of Essex and meet all the criteria, you’ll be automatically considered for the award.
Your eligibility will be assessed based on the academic documents (transcripts and certificates) submitted with your university application.
