The Government of Ireland Postgraduate Scholarship Programme is calling for application for its 2025 postgraduate programme. The Government of Ireland Postgraduate scholarship programme is an established national initiative, funded by the Department of Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science. It complements works in line with and complements the other channels of funded postgraduate education in Ireland.Â
The Government of Ireland Postgraduate Scholarship Programme stands out for its:
- Objective and fair process of selection of qualified applicants
- Awarding of individual prestigious awards
- Has funding across wide varieties of fields, from archeology to zoology.
This scholarship opportunity is highly competitive; the average success rate stands at 18% for the past five years. Awardees that have successfully made it through into the programme have been considered as showing world-class potential as future research leaders.
For 2025 entrants, the Government of Ireland Postgraduate Scholarship Programme is partnering with key government departments and agencies and the Irish Research Council for support in what they all see as a shared national objective.Â
The scholarship Offer
The scholarship opportunity is worth up to €31,000 per annum in any approved year. It also includes:
- €22,000 stipend per annum
- €5,750 contribution to fees, including Non-EU fees up to a maximum per annum
- €3,250 eligible direct research expenses per annum

Applicants are to read and understand the Call documentation for their eligibility status. All applications forms are to be created and submitted via the council’s online system. Indicative versions of the applicant and supervisors forms are for information purposes only.
