Funding Priority Themes
Projects should focus on one or more of the following themes:

- Freedom of Expression: Projects that uphold the right to free speech and the ability to communicate freely.
Eligibility and Project Criteria
To qualify, applicants must:
- Be registered as a non-profit CSO in an eligible Commonwealth country.
- Have at least three years of experience in advocacy or participatory governance.
- Ensure that the grant request does not exceed 70% of the organisation’s average annual income (must be below £2.5 million).
- Ensure that the project involves civil society in decision-making and addresses gender considerations.
- Implement the project within the country of registration with either national, sub-national, regional, or international impact.
Projects should be planned to start between 1 August 2025 and end of September 2025.
Financial Requirements
- Grants up to £15,000: Submit either audited or signed annual accounts.
- Grants over £15,000: Submit audited accounts, including the auditor’s opinion.
- Financial statements must not be older than December 2022.
- India-based applicants must comply with the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA).

- Register and complete the application on the Commonwealth Foundaton portal.
- Upload all necessary documents, including the logic model, organisation registration certificate, and financial documents.
- Applications via email are not accepted, so all submissions must go through the online portal.
