The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is excited to announce the National Essay Competition for students in tertiary and secondary schools across Nigeria. This Essay competition event, taking place in October 2024, aims to engage young minds in the fight against corruption and financial crimes in the country and Beyond.
Participants will have the opportunity to showcase their writing skills, critical thinking, and understanding of the role of ethics and integrity in nation-building. The competition is open to students nationwide, with attractive prizes and recognition for outstanding essays.

Tertiary Category
Topic: Using Technology for Social Good: How Digital Skills Can Be Leveraged to Promote Transparency in Governance.
Participants in this tertiary category will be assessed and judged based on the originality of their essays, which should be approximately 1,500 words. The essays should present a logical and well-organized argument on how technological skills can be harnessed to address social and environmental issues. Examples may include developing apps for healthcare or education, analyzing data for social justice causes, or creating digital tools aimed at promoting environmental sustainability.

- Winner: ₦800,000 (Eight Hundred Thousand Naira)
- First runner up: (₦500,000 Five Hundred Thousand Naira)
- Second runner up : (₦300,000 Three Hundred Thousand Naira)
Secondary Category
Topic: Exploring Alternatives to Cybercrimes for Sustainable Development
Participants in the secondary category will be assessed and judged based on the originality of their essays, which should be approximately 1,000 words. The essays should clearly and effectively propose alternatives to cybercrimes and explore how young people can channel their energy and creativity into positive online pursuits. These pursuits could include digital art, music, writing, or entrepreneurship.
Prizes:
- Winner: ₦700,000 (Seven Hundred Thousand Naira)
- First runner up: ₦400,000 (Four Hundred Thousand Naira)
- Second runner up : ₦300,000( Three Hundred Thousand Naira)

- Word Count: About 1,500 words for the tertiary category and 1,000 words for the secondary category.

Entries
- Submission Period: Thursday, August 8, 2024, to Monday, September 9, 2024.

Procedures
- Selection: Six winners (three from the secondary category and three from the tertiary category) will be selected.
- Award Presentation: Winners will be invited to Abuja for the award presentation.
Note: All Ai-assisted entries would be disqualified and children and wards of EFCC personnel are not eligible to participate
