The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has officially released the 2024 GCE results for private candidates. Out of 65,023 candidates, over 34,878 (53.64%) secured credits in five subjects, including English Language and Mathematics.
The announcement was made by Dr. Dangut Amos, WAEC’s Head of the National Office, and confirmed by Mrs. Moyosola Adesina, the council’s Head of Public Affairs.
Breakdown of Candidate Performance
- Total candidates: 65,023
- Candidates with five credits (including Maths & English): 34,878 (53.64%)
- Previous pass rates:
- 2023: 44.29%
- 2022: 42.16%
- Pass rate improvement: +9.35% from 2023
Male vs. Female Performance
- Male candidates with required credits: 16,886 (48.41%)
- Female candidates with required credits: 17,992 (51.58%)
- Observation: Female candidates outperformed male candidates.
Results Processing and Pending Cases
- Fully processed results: 62,364 candidates (95.90%)
- Pending results due to submission errors: 2,669 candidates (4.1%)
Withheld Results for Malpractice
- Results withheld: 2,577 candidates (3.98%)
- Reason: Suspected malpractice. Investigations are ongoing.
Special Needs Candidates
A total of 157 special needs candidates had their results fully processed, including:
- 25 visually impaired candidates
- 13 hearing impaired candidates
- 15 albino candidates
