The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) Nigeria has debunked rumors about introducing a resit examination for WASSCE candidates, clarifying that the claims originated from Ghana and are not applicable to Nigerian candidates.
Origin of the Report
The viral report cited WAEC official John Kapi, who is based in Ghana, leading to misconceptions among Nigerian candidates. WAEC Nigeria emphasized that the information pertains solely to Ghana and has no bearing on its operations in Nigeria.
Nigeria’s Private Candidate Exams
WAEC Nigeria has been conducting its own first series of private candidate exams since 2017. This initiative, launched under the leadership of former Head of the National Office (HNO) Mr. Olu Adenipekun, continues under his successors, Patrick Areghan and the current HNO, Dr. Amos Dangut. These exams, held between February and March, are distinct from the traditional May/June WASSCE for school candidates and the November/December private candidate exams (formerly GCE).
Official Statement
Mrs. Moyosola Adesina, WAEC Nigeria’s Head of Public Affairs, confirmed to Tribune Online that the resit examination report is misleading. She reassured candidates that WAEC Nigeria is fully prepared to conduct its scheduled private candidate exams as planned and urged the public to disregard the false claims.
This clarification reinforces WAEC Nigeria’s commitment to accurate communication and maintaining its examination schedules.
