UNIZIK Post-UTME Screening 2025/2026 | Official Calculation Formula Explained

UNIZIK Post-UTME Screening

Table of Contents

Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, has officially released the formula it will use to determine admission scores for the 2025/2026 academic session. The process combines candidates’ UTME scores and O’level results in a fixed ratio, with additional bonus marks for those presenting results in one sitting. This system applies to Post-UTME, Direct Entry, and related admission screenings.

Key Instructions for Candidates

UNIZIK has emphasized that compliance with its guidelines is crucial. Candidates must:

  • Upload their O’level results only at JAMB-accredited CBT centres or offices.
  • Avoid submitting results through regular cyber cafés, as such uploads may not be recognised.
  • Ensure the same O’level results are uploaded on both the JAMB CAPS and the UNIZIK portal.

Failure to follow these instructions could lead to disqualification, even if a candidate has strong scores.

How UNIZIK’s Admission Formula Works

The formula is structured to balance UTME performance with O’level achievements:

  • Weighting Ratio: 70% UTME score + 30% O’level score
  • O’level Grading System:
    • A1 = 90
    • B2 = 80
    • B3 = 70
    • C4 = 60
    • C5 = 55
    • C6 = 50
    • D7, E8, F9 = 0
    • Awaiting Result (AR) = 0

Important Note: Only the four subjects used in the candidate’s UTME are considered for O’level grading.

  • Bonus Points:
    • One sitting = +10 points
    • Two sittings = no bonus

Formula Applied:
Final Score = (UTME score × 0.7) + {(O’level score + Bonus) × 0.3}

Example of Score Calculation

Consider a candidate with a UTME score of 285 and the following O’level grades:

  • English – B3 (70)
  • Biology – A1 (90)
  • Physics – C4 (60)
  • Chemistry – B2 (80)

Total O’level score = 300

  • Single Sitting: (285 × 0.7) + {(300 + 10) × 0.3} = 199.5 + 93 = 292.5
  • Two Sittings: (285 × 0.7) + {(300 + 0) × 0.3} = 199.5 + 90 = 289.5

Although the difference here is just three points, that small margin could determine whether a candidate makes the cut.

The UNIZIK admission formula is clear and transparent, but it leaves no room for errors. Candidates should upload their results correctly, understand how their grades are scored, and plan strategically. With proper preparation, students can approach the screening process confidently.
