Godfrey Okoye University (GOUNI) is expanding its academic horizons with the introduction of Pharmacy and Medical Laboratory programmes for the 2025-2026 academic session. These new courses are set to elevate the institution’s healthcare education offerings and provide students with more career paths in the growing healthcare sector.
GOUNI’s Academic Expansion and Strategic Partnerships
The Vice-Chancellor, Reverend Father Professor Christian Anieke, has announced a series of transformative updates aimed at enhancing the institution’s academic portfolio. Among the key developments:
1. Faculty of Computing – A New Hub for Tech Education
The existing Computer Science department will be upgraded to the Faculty of Computing. This new faculty will offer cutting-edge courses that align with the evolving demands of the digital world. Students can now specialize in:
- Computer Science
- Software Engineering
- Data Science
- Artificial Intelligence (AI)
- Cybersecurity
Each course will be delivered using modern educational tools, such as smart boards and interactive computer systems, ensuring students acquire hands-on skills for real-world applications.
2. Progress at the College of Medicine
The College of Medicine at GOUNI is also moving forward at a rapid pace. The pioneer cohort of medical students is preparing for their 2nd MB examinations, slated for March 2025. The medical programme has achieved significant milestones, receiving approval for both 1st and 2nd MB exams in record time.
Students will soon commence their clinical training at the Teaching Hospital in Enugu, which features a newly established Accident and Emergency Department. This will give them essential hands-on experience, further solidifying the college’s reputation as a centre of medical excellence.
3. Ambitious Enrollment Targets for the 2024-2025 Session
GOUNI has termed the 2024-2025 academic year the “Cross Over Year” as it strives to admit 1,000 new undergraduate students and 350 postgraduate students. The university’s leadership plans to maintain high academic standards by focusing on high-performing courses and phasing out less popular programmes, ensuring a sustainable and impactful academic environment.
International Collaborations: Partnership with Lux Mundi University
In a bid to strengthen its academic ties, GOUNI has forged a strategic partnership with Lux Mundi University, Umuahia. The collaboration is focused on academic mentorship and shared learning opportunities. Through this partnership, Lux Mundi University will participate in GOUNI’s international exchange programmes, benefiting from its wide network of global academic partners.
At a formal Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signing event, Lux Mundi University’s proprietor, Professor Gabriel Okenwa, expressed his appreciation for GOUNI’s role in supporting their institution’s growth.
Looking Ahead: Preparing Future Healthcare and Tech Leaders
With the launch of the Pharmacy and Medical Laboratory programmes and the creation of the Faculty of Computing, GOUNI is positioning itself as a leader in both healthcare and technology education in Nigeria. These initiatives reflect the university’s commitment to providing quality education that not only meets industry standards but also equips students with the skills they need to succeed in an ever-changing world.
As GOUNI continues to evolve, students can expect more innovative courses and expanded opportunities for both academic and professional growth.
By incorporating these updates and partnerships, Godfrey Okoye University is set to become a hub of academic excellence in both healthcare and technology, fostering the next generation of professionals ready to make an impact globally.
