OAU’s Brightest Star — Philosophy Graduate Achieves Unbelievable 4.94 CGPA!

Korede Elijah Adewunmi, an exceptional Nigerian scholar, has been named the best graduating student in Philosophy at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), achieving an impressive 4.94/5.00 CGPA. His journey from aspiring law student to excelling in Philosophy highlights his resilience, determination, and passion for ethics.

A Change of Course

Korede initially aimed to study Law but switched to Philosophy when OAU’s law program was disaccredited in 2018. Encouraged by senior members of the National Association of Philosophy Students (NAPS) and the esteemed faculty at OAU, he embraced his new path with enthusiasm.

Overcoming Challenges

Korede faced financial struggles and recurring health issues, even working as a construction laborer to support himself. He credits his success to the unwavering support of his parents and a close friend, Sherif Lawal, who stood by him during tough times.

“Overcoming these challenges began in my mind. I stood up to my responsibilities and sought solutions,” he shared.


Academic Excellence

Korede developed a deep interest in ethics, including bioethics, environmental ethics, and the philosophy of mind. His final-year project, “The Problem of Other Minds and Cybercrimes,” earned a top score of 77%, standing out among over 90 submissions.

Beyond academics, Korede served as General Secretary of NAPS, where he organized impactful programs addressing societal issues such as drug abuse. Recognized as one of OAU’s 2024 Stars, he received a Certificate of Academic Excellence and was named NAPS’ “Critical Thinker of the Year.”

Looking Ahead

Korede aspires to advance in Philosophy, focusing on ethics and related fields. His goal is to become a globally influential professor and entrepreneur, contributing to academia, policymaking, and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
