Kwara State University (KWASU), Malete, has confirmed that the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has imposed a one-year suspension on Law admissions at the university. This follows a sanction by the Council for Legal Education (CLE) due to the university’s failure to obtain the proper clearance when launching its Law programme.
Reason for the Ban
KWASU initiated its Law programme in 2018 with approval from the National Universities Commission (NUC), but without clearance from the Council for Legal Education (CLE). As a result, CLE imposed a sanction, leading JAMB to enforce the one-year ban on Law admissions for the 2025/2026 session.
Current Accreditation Status
- KWASU holds full accreditation from both the National Universities Commission (NUC) and the Council for Legal Education (CLE).
- The university offers two undergraduate Law programmes:
- Common Law
- Common and Islamic Law
Effect on Current Students
The ban only affects new admissions for the 2025/2026 session. Students already enrolled in KWASU’s Faculty of Law will continue their studies uninterrupted.
University’s Response
KWASU has expressed its respect for the decision of the Council for Legal Education and confirmed that it will not offer Law admissions for the 2025/2026 academic session. However, the university assures that all other academic programmes remain accredited and open for prospective students.
