JAMB Exposes Chinedu Okeke’s False Claims in 2025 UTME Scandal

Chinedu Okeke’s False Claims in 2025 UTME

Table of Contents

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has officially responded to widespread misinformation surrounding the 2025 UTME controversy involving Chinedu Okeke, a candidate whose case has drawn public attention and triggered emotional reactions on social media.

Contrary to the misleading stories circulating online, JAMB has presented verified data and official records that contradict Chinedu’s claims. This scandal raises critical questions about identity manipulation, double admissions, and the integrity of Nigeria’s tertiary admissions system.

📌 Chinedu’s Real Identity: The Facts

JAMB clarified that contrary to claims that Chinedu Okeke hails from Anambra State, official NIN-linked records show that he is from Amuwo-Odofin Local Government Area, Lagos State. He sat for the 2021 UTME under this identity and secured admission into the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) to study Medicine and Surgery.

As of the time of this release, he is listed as a 400-level medical student, and UNN has not provided any conflicting information about his enrollment or academic status.

🎓 Why the Controversy?

In 2025, Chinedu allegedly attempted to sit for the UTME again, this time changing his identity details—including his state of origin, now claiming to be from Anambra State—to apply for Mechanical Engineering under a different quota.

JAMB has firmly stated:

“We do not fabricate or alter candidates’ information. Every candidate’s identity is pulled directly from their National Identification Number (NIN), which is used to validate their application.”

The Board insists that Chinedu manipulated his NIN-linked data between 2021 and 2025 in an attempt to gain a second admission, this time leveraging the Anambra State quota, possibly to bypass competitive entry hurdles.

🚫 Debunking the Lies: No Error from JAMB or NIMC

Chinedu’s defenders had alleged that JAMB fetched the wrong information from NIMC during registration. JAMB has declared this claim “unequivocally false”, asserting that:

  • All data used were those provided by Chinedu himself during registration.
  • Chinedu’s own supporters have confirmed changes to his NIN profile.

To strengthen future screening, JAMB and NIMC have since partnered to further protect the integrity of student data.

🎙️ Emotional Manipulation Won’t Erase the Facts

JAMB expressed disappointment at how some individuals have tried to emotionalize the case by interviewing Chinedu’s parents instead of verifying facts with the university.

“People prefer chasing sensational headlines instead of the truth. No one has contacted UNN for verification—yet their records remain clear.”

The Board reaffirmed that unless UNN refutes Chinedu’s current enrollment, he will continue to be treated as a legitimate student—for now. However, should official confirmation of fraud emerge, the Medical and Dental Council may be prompted to delist him.

⚖️ JAMB’s Position: No Candidate Is Above the System

JAMB emphasized that it is not out to “witch-hunt” Chinedu or any candidate. However, it cannot allow the system to be manipulated by individuals seeking unfair advantage at the expense of other deserving candidates.

According to JAMB:

  • Chinedu used Lagos State’s quota in 2021 to gain admission.
  • In 2025, he attempted to use Anambra State’s quota for another programme.
  • This action unfairly blocked opportunities for other genuine candidates.

🛡️ Upholding Integrity in Admissions

The Board ended its statement with a strong reminder:

“When a nation trivializes illegalities, it breeds a future fraught with criminality. Our job is to ensure that the leaders of tomorrow are worthy in both learning and character.”

JAMB remains committed to transparency, fairness, and integrity in Nigeria’s admission process—and warns all candidates: manipulating the system will not go unchallenged.
