Gombe State University’s branch of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has officially suspended its strike, following an agreement with the Gombe State Government. This decision comes after the government approved ₦947 million to meet the union’s demands, specifically addressing staff promotions and earned academic allowances (EAA).
The strike, which began on September 11, 2024, had disrupted academic activities at the university. However, after a series of negotiations, the state executive council, led by Governor Inuwa Yahaya, approved the funds, paving the way for the suspension of the strike.
Deputy Governor Manassah Jatau, representing the governor, expressed confidence that this agreement would bring stability to the university and ensure that academic activities resume without further interruptions.
With preparations underway, students and staff can expect the resumption of academic sessions soon.
