The Federal University of Lafia (FULafia) has announced a one-year extension for the tenures of two essential administrative officials, the Bursar and the University Librarian. This decision was made during the institution’s 6th Extraordinary Meeting by the Governing Council, which recognized the contributions of these key figures in the university’s development and stability.
Governing Council Decision on Tenure Extensions
In alignment with Section 5, Subsection 5 of the Universities (Miscellaneous Provision) (Amendment) Act, 2012, the Council has extended the terms of Dr. Daniel Anjola Wilson, the Bursar, and Professor Abiodun Olaide Iyoro, the Librarian, each by one year. This provision enables tenure extensions to promote consistency and support ongoing institutional goals at FULafia.
Reasons for Extending the Bursar’s Tenure
The extension of Dr. Wilson’s term as Bursar is aimed at maintaining continuity within FULafia’s financial operations. Key reasons include:
- Operational Continuity: Dr. Wilson’s tenure extension will provide stability amid ongoing automation and digitization projects within the bursary, ensuring smooth financial administration.
- Leadership and Oversight: Dr. Wilson has demonstrated effective leadership in FULafia’s financial management, strengthening fiscal responsibility and operational integrity.
- Support for New Council Members: This additional year allows the new Governing Council members to familiarize themselves with the university’s financial structures and strategic processes.
As a result, Dr. Wilson’s extended term will now conclude on 4 May 2026, rather than the previous date of 5 May 2025.
Reasons for Extending the Librarian’s Tenure
Professor Iyoro’s term as Librarian was also extended, with an emphasis on continuity in academic administration. Key points include:
- Completion of Strategic Projects: The extra year will enable Professor Iyoro to finalize major initiatives, such as the development of an e-resource library for faculties, a vital addition to FULafia’s academic resources.
- Mentorship and Transition: Professor Iyoro will use this period to mentor the incoming librarian, ensuring a seamless handover process.
- Accreditation and Program Development: Professor Iyoro has played an instrumental role in securing full accreditation for 98% of FULafia’s programs and in establishing e-libraries, significantly advancing the university’s academic infrastructure.
Professor Iyoro’s tenure will now end on 1 July 2026, a year beyond the original end date of 2 July 2025.
Ensuring Stability in FULafia’s Administration
These extensions reflect FULafia’s commitment to continuity and progress in both financial and academic administration. By retaining experienced leaders, the university is better positioned to sustain its strategic initiatives, fostering a stable environment for growth and institutional excellence.
