Federal University Dutse (FUD) has officially abolished the option for students to pay their registration fees in instalments. This change was implemented by the university’s Governing Council during its 4th Governing Council’s 3rd Regular Meeting. Previously, students had the option to pay 60% of their fees at the beginning of the session and the remaining 40% later. This move follows the introduction of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFund), and it is aimed at reducing financial strain on students’ families.
Reasons for the Decision
The decision to end the instalment payment structure was made due to challenges with the university’s portal, which was reportedly overwhelmed by the dual payment process. The university’s Registrar, Alhaji Abubakar Mijinyawa, FCIA, signed the memo explaining that the previous system had caused issues for the portal. The university has also assured students that the Benevolent Fund will continue to provide assistance to those facing financial difficulties.
Refunds for Students
In line with the new policy, FUD has processed refunds for 1,503 students who had already paid their fees before their NELFund loans were disbursed. The Bursar, Malam Hassan Balarabe, CNA, confirmed that a total of 1,920 students successfully applied for the NELFund, and all refunds were promptly issued after the NELFund disbursements reached the university.
