In a remarkable show of philanthropy, Mr. Femi Otedola has donated N3.7 billion for the expansion of Augustine University’s Faculty of Engineering. Announced at the sixth convocation ceremony, the donation will cover the first phase of the engineering complex, with the second phase set to be completed within 12 months. Additionally, Otedola has generously contributed N1 million per student to ease tuition costs.
In his address to the graduating students, Otedola emphasized that education extends beyond personal success, highlighting its role in building character and fostering compassion. “Your degree is not just a symbol of academic achievement – it’s a testament to your commitment to learning and integrity,” he remarked. Otedola urged graduates to leverage their knowledge and skills to make meaningful contributions to society.
The convocation also featured remarks from the Catholic Bishop of Lagos Archdiocese, Most Rev. Dr. Alfred Adewale Martins, who reiterated the university’s mission to develop morally sound, well-rounded individuals. He emphasized that Augustine University’s Catholic foundation strives to impart not just intellectual knowledge but also spiritual and moral values.
Vice Chancellor Prof. Christopher Odetunde expressed gratitude to Otedola, Chief Stephen Bakare (for the donation of the Faculty of Law complex), and other supporters, including members of the Church of Assumption, Falomo, and Our Lady of Perpetual Help, for their contributions towards new hostels on campus.
Dr. Peter Bamkole, the convocation lecturer, spoke on “Rethinking Economic Rebirth in Nigeria through Youth Entrepreneurship,” encouraging students to acquire unique skills to distinguish themselves in the job market.
This significant donation underscores Otedola’s commitment to advancing education and supporting Nigeria’s future leaders.
