The Federal High Court in Abuja has approved the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s (EFCC) request to freeze 24 bank accounts linked to alleged terrorism financing. Presiding Judge Emeka Nwite granted the ex parte application filed by the EFCC, marking a significant step in the investigation into money laundering and other unlawful activities.
The Case Details
The EFCC, represented by counsel Ekele Iheanacho, sought the freezing order as part of an ongoing investigation involving Lawrence Lucky Eromosele, a suspect allegedly connected to kidnapping and terrorism financing.
Key findings and allegations include:
The bank accounts are suspected to contain proceeds from illegal naira manipulation through cryptocurrency platforms.
Funds in these accounts are linked to unlawful activities, including money laundering.
Intelligence revealed that the funds were covertly exchanged to support criminal and terrorist operations.
An affidavit deposed by Mohammed Khalil, an EFCC investigator, disclosed that the National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu, directed the investigation after a syndicate reportedly blackmailed senior operatives and threatened to abduct their relatives.

The EFCC presented:
Bank statements of one of the suspects (Exhibit EFCC 2), which allegedly show proceeds of crimes.
Intelligence reports linking the accounts to criminal activities.
During the hearing, EFCC counsel Martha Babatunde informed the court that the investigation would require 90 days to complete.
Court’s Decision
Judge Emeka Nwite granted the EFCC’s request to freeze the accounts and adjourned the case to March 24, 2025, for a mention. The freezing order aims to protect the funds pending the conclusion of the investigation.
