The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) at Sa’adu Zungur University has officially suspended its indefinite strike, which began on November 29, 2024.
Reasons for the Strike
The strike was initiated to press for:
- Implementation of pension and death benefit schemes for staff.
- Payment of earned academic allowances.
- Settlement of excess workload allowances.
Resolution Following Key Meeting
The decision to suspend the strike came after a meeting held on December 14, 2024, at the Yuli Campus.
- Comrade Auwal Nuhu, ASUU Chairperson, confirmed the suspension through a statement issued on Monday.
- Discussions between the ASUU branch and the Bauchi State Government were pivotal in reaching this resolution.
Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) Signed
The state government and ASUU formalized their agreement through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
- The productive discussions were facilitated by Governor Bala Mohammed, whose proactive role was acknowledged by the union.
- The agreement underscores the government’s commitment to addressing the educational sector’s challenges in Bauchi State.
Monitoring Agreement Implementation
While suspending the strike, the union emphasized its intent to closely monitor the implementation of the agreed terms.
- Comrade Nuhu highlighted that ASUU remains dedicated to ensuring the state government fulfills its promises.
