The University of Connecticut (UConn) is renowned for its successful sports programs, especially its basketball teams, the UConn Huskies. The UConn Huskies logo has evolved over the years, becoming a symbol closely associated with the university’s athletic achievements.
UConn Huskies Logo History
1959–1960
The first UConn Huskies logo featured a simple, white portrait of a dog facing left with blue accents. The thin outlines around the dog gave the logo a clean, but somewhat sad look due to the dog’s eyes.
1960–1970
This iteration introduced a more lively and inviting cartoon-style husky, depicted as a "minute man" with a rifle in hand. The logo used dark blue and white, signaling a more approachable identity for the team.
1970–1981
The husky portrait was reintroduced, this time with a more detailed and serious expression. The dog looked thoughtful and determined, presenting a more mature and academic appearance, fitting for a university.
1981–2002
This version featured a highly realistic, almost photographic portrayal of the husky dog. The dog’s friendly expression, with its tongue out, was set against a dark blue circular background. The logo included "Connecticut Huskies" in white serif letters outlined in dark blue, giving it a three-dimensional look.
2002–2010
A modernization of the logo in 2002 removed the blue round background and added a light gray outline to the husky. The university’s name was now displayed in a more modern, spaced-out sans-serif font in blue.
2010–2013
The logo’s blue color was darkened, giving the design a more serious tone. While the husky and the font remained the same, the change in color affected the overall feel of the emblem.
2013–Present
The current logo, introduced in 2013, was designed by Nike's Clint Shaner. It features a more aggressive and determined depiction of the UConn mascot, Jonathan the Husky, marking a fresh, dynamic direction for the sports teams.
