Stade de Reims is a French football club, also known as "Les rouges et Blancs" (The Red and Whites). Established in 1931, it played in Ligue 2 until 2017 and has since become a successful team under the guidance of head coach David Guion.
Meaning and History of Stade de Reims Logo
The visual identity of Stade de Reims has evolved significantly over the years, with some interesting shifts, including a period when the team played without a logo due to legal restrictions.
1931 – 1991
The first logo was introduced in 1931, featuring a football with a green and gold champagne bottle on top. A diagonal red ribbon adorned the ball, and a gold outline ribbon arched beneath it. The wordmark was simple and bold, using gold capital letters in a sans-serif typeface, contributing to the logo's elegant yet straightforward design. The inclusion of the champagne bottle gave the logo a unique and memorable character.
1991 – 1992
In 1991, the club’s name was changed to Stade de Reims Champagne, and the logo was updated to reflect this. The color of the champagne bottle changed to red and white, and the football was redesigned with a black-and-white pattern. The red ribbon added a strong contrast to the design, while the wordmark was updated to include the full club name.
1992 – 1999
Due to new legal restrictions banning the use of alcohol-related imagery, Stade de Reims had no logo between 1992 and 1999. The club continued to play without any visual identity, relying purely on their name.
1999 – 2020
In 1999, Stade de Reims reverted to its original name and introduced a new logo. The updated design featured a red and white circular badge with “Stade de Reims” written in a sleek font inside a white rounded frame. At the bottom, “Depuis 1931” was added to mark the club’s founding year. In the center, the letters "S" and "R" were incorporated around a white vignette, with a red and white football placed beneath.
2020 – Present
In 2020, the club unveiled a modern logo featuring a red outline with a stylized crown at the top. The vertical "SR" monogram, in a custom bold sans-serif font with sharp, pointed ends, stands at the heart of the crest. Below the monogram is the modern "Stade Reims" wordmark, with the final two letters of "Stade" and the entire "Reims" in bolder lines, creating a sleek, cohesive, and contemporary visual identity.
