The Military Bowl, first played in 2008, is an annual post-season NCAA Division I college football bowl game. Initially hosted in Washington, D.C., the game moved to the Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in Annapolis, Maryland, in 2013. It celebrates collegiate football excellence and honors the United States Armed Forces.
Founded with the dual purpose of showcasing football talent and paying tribute to military service, the Military Bowl has grown significantly since its inception. Its partnerships with collegiate football conferences and corporate sponsors have bolstered its prestige, making it a key event in the college football calendar. By combining competitive sportsmanship with military recognition, the bowl has become a symbol of excellence and respect for service members.
The Military Bowl’s branding has undergone several changes over the years, reflecting its evolving identity.
The 2008–2009 logo featured a bold yellow and blue palette with a horizontally oriented banner. The design incorporated the “EagleBank” logotype on a yellow ribbon above the blue “Bowl” lettering, styled in a heavy serif font. The “O” was shaped like a football and included an image of the Capitol dome.
From 2010 to 2013, the bowl introduced a circular medallion logo with red, white, and blue elements. The Capitol dome was a central feature, accompanied by a football and a ribbon adorned with stars. The text “Presented by Northrop Grumman” appeared beneath the emblem.
The 2014 redesign placed the Capitol against a sky-blue background with white and red stripes below. The logo included a football marked with the “USO” abbreviation, emphasizing its connection to the United Service Organizations.
For the 2017 tenth anniversary, the logo added the phrase “10th Anniversary” and the dates “2008–2017” to highlight the milestone year.
In 2018, the bowl reverted to the 2014 design, removing the anniversary elements.
The 2021 redesign introduced a modern, bold look. A dark blue circular badge with a gray and blue frame features the phrase “Benefiting the USO” at the bottom. A white star and military chevron occupy the top, while the word “Bowl” dominates the center, with its “O” stylized as a football. Smooth red ribbons flank the central text, adding a touch of vibrancy to the strong, contemporary design.
