The evolution of GSK’s logo reflects its commitment to progress, quality, and accessibility. From its founding, GSK has consistently updated its branding to align with its growth and leadership in the pharmaceutical industry.

2000–2014: The Original Identity

The first GSK logo featured a tablet-like orange emblem with “GSK” written in white. A soft lighting effect added a sense of depth, while a subtle hook-like detail on the lowercase “g” made the design distinctive. Accompanying the emblem was the full brand name, "GlaxoSmithKline," in gray, which provided clarity during the company’s early years post-merger.

2014–2022: Modern Simplicity

In 2014, GSK rebranded with a more streamlined design by FutureBrand, a leading brand consultancy. The updated logo retained the orange tablet-shaped emblem, now more refined and polished, resembling a heart or pill to symbolize care and health. The white Frutiger typeface for “GSK” reinforced clarity and modernity. This design became one of the most recognizable emblems in the pharmaceutical sector, representing the company’s dedication to quality and its customers.

2022–Present: Bold Innovation

The 2022 redesign marked a significant departure from previous designs. The new GSK logo features a stylized uppercase wordmark in a gradient orange palette, symbolizing energy, optimism, and trust. The bold, stable letters have softened, twisting connections, giving the design a sense of flexibility and innovation while maintaining a professional aesthetic. This modernized identity reflects GSK’s forward-thinking approach and commitment to adaptability in a rapidly evolving industry.

Alternate Symbol Versions

To ensure flexibility across platforms and materials, GSK’s branding guidelines allow for three additional logo variations:

  1. White letters in the orange tablet shape (without a gradient).
  2. Orange letters on a white tablet shape within a rectangular box.
  3. White letters on a gray background for a more neutral appearance.

Each variation is designed to maintain consistency while accommodating diverse branding needs.

Typography and Color Palette

  • Font: The wordmark’s custom typeface blends modernity with approachability. While the earlier versions used the clean Frutiger typeface, the current design features a bespoke font with softened corners and unique twists, symbolizing adaptability and innovation.
  • Color: Orange remains GSK’s signature color, symbolizing energy, warmth, and trust. The gradient effect in the current logo adds depth and dynamism, aligning with the company’s progressive vision.

GSK: A Legacy of Impact

From its inception, GSK has embodied its mission to improve global health through innovation and accessibility. The company’s evolving logo not only reflects its growth but also reinforces its unwavering dedication to delivering high-quality healthcare solutions to people worldwide.
