The Edmonton Elks, a professional Canadian football team based in Edmonton, Alberta, has a rich history dating back to the 1930s. While their official CFL participation began in the 1950s, the team achieved iconic status with 14 Grey Cup championships and a remarkable 34 consecutive playoff appearances. The club was originally known as the Edmonton Eskimos, but in 2021, the team changed its name to the Edmonton Elks, marking a new chapter in its history.

Logo History:

  • 1930 – 1970: The first logo of the Edmonton Eskimos featured a green shield with yellow rims. At the center, a yellow plaque displayed the club's name, "Eskimos Football Club," in black sans-serif letters. Surrounding the shield were elements that symbolized the region, including a stack of wheat, an oil derrick (referencing Edmonton's status as Canada’s oil capital), and a football with the word "Edmonton" inscribed on it.
  • 1970 – 1988: The logo transitioned to a football shape, with two interconnected "E" letters inside. The bars of the first "E" doubled as the upper bars of the second "E," creating a continuous flow. The font was smooth and rectangular, maintaining the same green and yellow color scheme.
  • 1988 – 1996: The logo was further refined into an oval shape. The yellow rim became slimmer, and the overall design took on a more streamlined look, while retaining the core elements of the previous logo.
  • 1996 – 1998: The emblem featured blockier, more linear letters, with a fatter yellow rim. A notable addition was the inclusion of a polar bear with its paws gripping the logo, adding a dynamic and fierce element to the design.
  • 1998 – 2021: The logo from this period retained the design from the previous iteration but removed the polar bear elements, resulting in a cleaner look with just the "Eskimos" text and yellow rim.
  • 2021 – Today: The team rebranded to the Edmonton Elks in 2021, adopting a new logo. The emblem features a stylized elk's head, created with thick, dark-green lines that form the shape of the animal's head and horns. The elk's determined look is reflected in the single eye that is visible. The team name, "Elks," is displayed below the elk’s head in dark green sans-serif letters. The rebranding aimed to modernize the team's image while symbolizing strength, resilience, and determination.
