Denver Broncos is a professional football team in the NFL, based in Denver, Colorado. Established in 1959, the team has had a long and storied history, winning multiple championships, including three Super Bowl titles (1997, 1998, and 2015). The Broncos' visual identity has evolved over the years, consistently featuring the iconic bronco horse as a central symbol, reflecting the team's connection to Colorado’s strong equestrian heritage and its values of courage, speed, and freedom.

Team Overview

The Denver Broncos have been a dominant force in professional football since the AFL-NFL merger in 1970. They gained widespread fame through legendary quarterbacks like John Elway and Peyton Manning, who led the team to Super Bowl victories. Over the years, the Broncos have built a dedicated fan base, both in Colorado and across the United States.

Despite early struggles, such as financial difficulties and a lackluster start in the AFL, the Broncos found success under head coach Jack Follner in the 1960s. The team’s first win in 1960, a 13-10 victory over the Boston Patriots, marked the beginning of their journey to becoming one of the NFL’s most successful teams.

Logo History

The Denver Broncos logo has undergone several redesigns, but the central theme—a bronco horse—has remained consistent throughout its history.

  1. 1960 — 1961: The original logo depicted a football player sitting on a bronco horse in yellow and brown. The design, though playful, lasted only one year before being reworked to give a more aggressive and powerful look.
  2. 1962 — 1967: The player was now standing on the bronco’s back, and both the player and horse were designed to appear more fierce. The logo was dominated by shades of orange and blue, reflecting the team’s colors.
  3. 1968 — 1992: The rider was removed, and the logo evolved into the familiar “D” shape with a bronco emerging from it. The horse was rendered in white with black outlines, with the negative space of the letter filled with blue. This emblem remained largely unchanged for nearly three decades.
  4. 1993 — 1996: The logo was refined, with smoother lines and bolder elements. The steam coming from the bronco’s mouth was outlined in black, and the overall design was modernized.
  5. 1997 — Today: The current logo features a profile of a bronco facing right, symbolizing the future and forward motion. The horse is white with dark blue outlines and orange accents in the mane and eye. The bold “Denver Broncos” wordmark accompanies the emblem, making the logo both powerful and stylish.

Uniforms and Helmets

The Denver Broncos uniform features a bold color scheme of orange, navy blue, and white. The team’s primary uniform consists of bright orange jerseys paired with white pants, accented with blue and orange stripes. The alternate uniform is a sleek navy blue with orange stripes.

The helmets are deep blue with a thin orange stripe and a white-and-orange bronco logo on the sides. These elements combine to create a strong and determined look, embodying the team’s aggressive playing style.

Stadium

Since 2001, the Denver Broncos have called Empower Field at Mile High their home. The stadium can hold 76,125 fans and is a modern replacement for the original Mile High Stadium, which served as the team’s home for over 40 years.

Mascots

The Denver Broncos have two mascots: Miles, a large, cartoonish horse in a team jersey, and Thunder, a real-life purebred Arabian gelding who appears at every home game.

Anniversary Logos

Throughout its history, the Broncos have celebrated significant milestones with special anniversary logos:

  • 1984: A logo created for the silver anniversary of the AFL, featuring the team’s helmet and the “Silver Anniversary” inscription.
  • 2009: For the Broncos' 50th season, a commemorative emblem was designed, featuring a football-shaped medallion with the bold number “50” and the team's emblem in the center.

Team Colors

  • Broncos Orange: PMS 1655 C, HEX #FB4F14, RGB (251, 79, 20)
  • Broncos Navy: PMS 289 C, HEX #002244, RGB (0, 34, 68)

These colors represent the power, energy, and history of the Broncos, and are consistently used across their uniforms, logos, and merchandise.

The Denver Broncos have built a rich legacy in the NFL, characterized by their fierce determination, iconic bronco symbol, and a passionate fan base. From their early days in the AFL to their modern success in the NFL, the Broncos remain a cornerstone of American football, with a powerful visual identity to match their competitive spirit.
