De Película Plus is a television channel dedicated to showcasing the best of Spanish-language cinema, spanning all genres and time periods. From classic black-and-white films to contemporary productions, its programming includes a diverse range of content such as movie marathons, comedies, dramas, and more. Established in 2012, the channel has become a favorite among millions of viewers in Latin America, the United States, and Mexico, thanks to its carefully curated catalog designed to appeal to all members of the family.
Meaning and History
De Película Plus originated as De Película HD, a subsidiary of one of Latin America's leading television companies. The channel's evolution reflects its mission to adapt to modern demands while maintaining its dedication to high-quality programming. Over the years, the channel's branding has undergone several redesigns, mirroring its growth and development.
2012–2016
The first logo of De Película HD debuted with the channel’s launch in 2012. It featured a gradient blue triangle pointing left with an extended peak, symbolizing forward-thinking and motion. The triangle housed a white lowercase “DP” in a sleek sans-serif font. To the right of the triangle, the wordmark included “De Película” in black, followed by the uppercase “HD” in the same typeface. This design also had a minimalistic version featuring only the triangle and “HD.”
2016–2017
In 2016, the logo was simplified and modernized. The design adopted a flat black-and-white color scheme, ditching the gradient. The triangle with the “DP” abbreviation remained, but the typeface was slightly adjusted for a cleaner, thinner look. The accompanying “HD” was updated to a taller and more robust font, projecting stability and professionalism. This version was short-lived, as the channel rebranded to De Película Plus shortly after.
2017–2021
Following the channel’s renaming in 2017, a refreshed logo was introduced. The iconic black triangle with the white “DP” stayed, but the “HD” was replaced with “Plus” in a sleek, modern font. The new lettering featured an extended horizontal bar on the “P,” giving it a unique and contemporary appearance while aligning with the updated brand identity.
2021–Today
In 2021, De Película Plus adopted a completely new logo design. The emblem was transformed into a solid black square featuring four smaller white squares arranged vertically on the left side. At its center was a bold, serif-free white “D” with clean, thick lines. Beneath the square, the text “Película Plus” was introduced in a bold sans-serif typeface, arranged on two levels. The updated visual identity reflects the channel’s continued emphasis on strength, sophistication, and clarity, while retaining the classic black-and-white color palette.
Font and Color
The visual identity of De Película Plus has consistently utilized a black-and-white color scheme, emphasizing elegance and timelessness.
The original logo featured smooth, modern sans-serif typefaces, which evolved into bolder, more geometric fonts over time. The current logo’s typeface is clean and strong, with a minimalist design that conveys professionalism and adaptability. The bold “D” in the emblem anchors the visual identity, while the lowercase “Película Plus” text ensures accessibility and familiarity.
Through its thoughtful branding and diverse programming, De Película Plus has established itself as a cornerstone of Spanish-language cinematic television.
