1924 – 1925

The first official logo, introduced in 1924 after the company’s renaming, featured a Roman warrior lady holding a shield in one hand and a wheat spike in the other. The wordmark was placed in the center of the oval badge above the image, with an ornate frame and Greek columns on either side. This early logo emphasized strength, culture, and resilience.

1925 – 1926

In 1925, the logo was refined with a black background and stronger, more confident contours. The emblem became circular, and the wordmark was repositioned around the perimeter of the badge, creating a cleaner, more modern look.

1926 – 1932

In 1926, the iconic "Lady with the Torch" made her debut in the logo. The design was still circular, with a black background and the lady's upper body holding a torch. The wordmark was placed around the inner perimeter, using a bold, custom serif typeface.

1932 – 1933

The logo was redesigned in 1932, adopting a red background with white stripes emanating from the torch. The wordmark featured a contemporary sans-serif font, signaling a modern shift in the company’s identity.

1933 – 1936

The color palette was simplified back to black and white in 1933, with the logo retaining its modern contours. The use of monochrome conveyed authority and professionalism, reinforcing Columbia’s growing influence in Hollywood.

1936 – 1938

The circular emblem was replaced by a rectangular shape in 1936. The "Lady with the Torch" was still central, but the logo now featured bolder rays and a two-tone inscription to add dynamism and volume.

1938 – 1945

In 1938, the logo returned to a circular shape with a more minimalist design. The lady’s delicate silhouette was surrounded by thin straight lines, and the wordmark was placed around the perimeter in a stronger, more confident typeface.

1945 – 1964

The 1945 logo showcased a more detailed version of the lady from the 1936 logo, this time with a wide ribbon at the bottom that held the inscription "Columbia Pictures" in capital letters. This design emphasized the brand’s history while introducing a sense of elegance and stature.

1964 – 1975

The 1964 logo was one of the most minimalist designs in the company’s history. It featured a stylized "C" with a torch inside, executed in white with a black outline and shadow. The image was enclosed in a thin square with rounded corners.

1975 – 1981

In 1975, a bold new design emerged. The logo featured a black wordmark set in two levels, with a half-circle emblem above it. The emblem, symbolizing a stylized torch, was composed of sharp, dynamic rays, evoking power and modernity.

1981 – 1989

The 1981 redesign introduced the lady with the torch surrounded by rays against a black background. The serif typeface of the wordmark remained consistent, reinforcing the timeless nature of the brand.

1989 – 1992

In 1989, the color of the logo was reversed. The Lady with the Torch was outlined in thick black contours and placed on a white background. The wordmark was refined but kept the same style as the previous versions, ensuring consistency.

1992 – 1993

A subtle but important change occurred in 1992, with the statue placed to the right of the two-level wordmark. The wordmark was executed in a stable, slightly narrowed serif typeface, balancing the emblem's strength with elegance.

1993 – Today

The current Columbia Pictures logo, created in 1993, features an enlarged wordmark set in two levels. The emblem, positioned to the right of the text, is a delicate yet powerful image of the Lady with the Torch surrounded by a curved line symbolizing a cloud. The logo is enclosed in a square frame, creating a timeless and refined visual identity. It represents both the company’s heritage and its continued strength in the film industry.
