The Baltimore Ravens, founded in 1996, are one of the youngest teams in the NFL. Born out of Baltimore's determined pursuit to reclaim an NFL franchise after the Colts' relocation to Indianapolis in 1984, the Ravens have quickly established themselves as a powerhouse. Competing in the AFC North Division, the team boasts two Super Bowl victories (2000 and 2012).

Baltimore's journey to reclaim football glory was a long one. In 1993, the city submitted its bid for a new NFL team under the name Baltimore Bombers. Despite being well-prepared, the NFL awarded franchises to Charlotte and Jacksonville. Undeterred, Baltimore turned to the CFL, forming the Baltimore Stallions, who thrived briefly and even won the 1995 Grey Cup.

In 1996, the NFL finally returned to Baltimore, and the team adopted the name Ravens, chosen in a Baltimore Sun poll. The name honors Edgar Allan Poe, the iconic writer who spent part of his life in Baltimore and penned the renowned poem, The Raven.
