Pan-Atlantic University (PAU), located in Lekki, Lagos State, Nigeria, is a private, non-profit institution renowned for its focus on entrepreneurship, business, and media studies. The university, which officially became Pan-Atlantic University in 2002, traces its roots to the Lagos Business School (LBS), established in 1991. LBS served as the foundation of the university’s growth and reputation for high-quality education.

History and Development

Pan-Atlantic University began its journey as Pan-African University before receiving government approval to operate as a full-fledged university in 2002, with Lagos Business School as its first campus. The university expanded its reach by opening the Ajah campus in 2003 and commencing construction of the Ibeju-Lekki campus in 2010.

In 2006, recognizing the importance of media in shaping society, the university established the School of Media and Communication (SMC), further strengthening its role in education and the development of cultural norms.

The university changed its name to Pan-Atlantic University (PAU) in May 2013 to avoid confusion with the Pan-African University affiliated with the African Union.

Milestones and Achievements

The university launched the Virtual Museum of Modern Nigerian Art in 2011, showcasing over 400 artworks by both emerging and renowned Nigerian artists. The Enterprise Development Center (EDC) hosted its first Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW) in 2011, providing training and resources to aspiring Nigerian entrepreneurs. That same year, British Prime Minister David Cameron delivered a lecture at the university on aid, trade, and democracy, advocating for stronger trade relations and the creation of an African free trade zone.

In 2014, PAU launched its first undergraduate programs at the new Ibeju-Lekki campus. The Yemisi Shyllon Museum of Art was inaugurated in 2019, offering a platform for modern art appreciation.

In collaboration with the MasterCard Foundation, the university provided vocational training to 10,000 women, enhancing their business skills and employability. PAU also partners with the International Finance Corporation (IFC) to offer the SME Toolkit Nigeria, a resource that provides free business management information to small businesses.
