History and Development
LASUSTECH was founded through Lagos State Edict No. 1 of 1978, which took effect on June 1, 1977. The institution officially began operations in January 1978, offering programs in Accounting, Business Administration, Banking and Finance, Marketing, and Insurance. Initially, classes were held at a temporary location, which later became the Isolo campus. By August 1, 1978, the School of Agriculture in Ikorodu was integrated into the polytechnic, forming the foundation of the university’s Ikorodu main campus.
In 1986, the institution was renamed Lagos State Polytechnic (LASPOTECH). After several decades of growth, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu signed a bill in February 2022 that officially transformed LASPOTECH into the Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH). This change was followed by the presentation of the university’s certificate by the National Universities Commission (NUC), authorizing LASUSTECH to offer 38 academic programs across five colleges.
