Federal University of Agriculture Abeokuta, Ogun State, (FUNAAB)

One of the universities owned and operated by the Nigerian federal government is the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta. After four technological institutions that had previously united in 1984 were separated, the Federal Government founded the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, Ogun State, or FUNAAB, on January 1, 1988.

The university first opened its doors on the former Abeokuta Grammar School campus in Isale-Igbein, close to the city center. In 1997, it finished moving to its present location on Alabata Road.

The university had five colleges when it was opened, which were as follows:

  • College of Agricultural Management, Rural Development and Communication Studies (COLAMRUCS)
  • College of Animal Science and Livestock Production (COLANIM)
  • College of Environmental Resources Management (COLERM)
  • College of Natural Sciences (COLNAS)

Following a reform and reorganization, the College of Natural Science was divided into three colleges:

  • College of Physical Sciences (COLPHYS)
  • College of Biological Science (COLBIOS), and
  • College of Plant Science and Crop Production (COLPLANT)

Two more colleges were launched in March of 2002:

  • The College of Engineering (COLENG)
  • The College of Veterinary Medicine (CORVET)

The College of Agricultural Management, Rural Development, and Communication Studies was divided into two during the 2008–2009 academic year, and the resulting two colleges are as follows:

  • College of Food Science and Human Ecology (COLFHEC)
  • College of Agricultural Management and Rural Development (COLAMRUD)

The College of Management Sciences (COLMAS) is the newest college.
