The Tasmania Graduate Research Scholarship (TGRS) is available to students across all research fields at the University of Tasmania. These scholarships are awarded to applicants who have demonstrated strong research potential.

Living Allowance

The TGRS provides a living allowance of AUD $32,192 per year (2024 rate), which is adjusted annually on January 1st to match inflation.

Scholarship Duration

• PhD: Funding is provided for 3.5 years, with no extensions. It’s important to note that this duration is shorter than the maximum PhD candidature, which is 4 years.
• Masters: The scholarship covers 2 years, and no extensions are available.

Tuition Fees

• International Students: Unless awarded a Tuition Fee Scholarship, international Higher Degree by Research (HDR) candidates are required to pay tuition fees for the full duration of their research program. The 2024 fee schedule is available for reference.
• Domestic Students: For domestic candidates, tuition fees are covered by the RTP Fee Offset for the entire duration of their research program, with no extensions. The RTP Fee Offset is equivalent to the 2024 tuition rates.

Relocation Allowance

The TGRS offers up to AUD $2,000 to assist with relocation costs for students moving to Tasmania to pursue their research degree.

Important Note: The TGRS does not cover additional expenses such as the Student Services and Amenities Fee, Overseas Health Cover, or visa-related costs. These expenses must be handled by the student.
