Medicine or Human Medicine is the field of science that deals with the study of the biology of the human body: biology of human body involves the study of the body’s physiology (functioning), anatomy (structure), pathology (diseases, causes and cure) and how drugs affect body systems (Pharmacology).
The aim and objectives of medicine is to diagnose, treat and prevent various health conditions.
Medicine is the training to become a Medical Doctor with Bachelor in Medicine, Bachelor in Surgery (MBBS) certificate. During the six (6) years course of training in the university, the student acquires so many theoretical knowledge and hands-on experiences in Medicine and surgery.
Medicine and surgery go hand-in-hand. Medicine is the study and use use of drugs to treat, care for and prevent diseases, and promote health. Surgery on the other hand treats disease condions by methods of incision and excision. An aspiring medical doctor is required to be grounded in both areas, hence the certificate, MBBS.
It is common to call anyone in white lab coat working in the hospital a Doctor. But do you know what kind of Doctor he or she is? The juice is, at the peak of medical school, medical students have the choice to pick a specific area of medicine they like to specialize in. Some Doctors may specialize in the study of the heart (cardiology), some the brain (Neurology), others pathology, physiotherapy, family medicine, community medicine amd public health, gynaecology, pediatrics, etc. These are different areas in medicine.
