WAEC Mathematics examination tests students’ mathematical competency and computational ability. The exam is divided into two papers that are written on the same day, one sitting. Paper one has fifty (5) objective questions for 50 marks. Paper two is the essay part carrying thirteen (13) questions in two parts, section A and B.
Section A – five compulsory questions, elementary in nature carrying a total of 40 marks. The questions will be drawn from the common areas of the syllabus.
Section B – eight questions of greater length and difficulty. The questions shall include a maximum of two which shall be drawn from parts of the syllabuses not peculiar to candidates’ home countries. Candidates will be expected to answer five questions for 60marks.
The council recommends that teachers should use their National teaching syllabuses as this particular one is not a teaching syllabus.
