Lagos State University (LASU) has sacked two senior academic staff over confirmed cases of sexual harassment, fraud, and serious misconduct.
🔍 What Happened?
The dismissal of:
- Prof. Olatunji T. F. Abanikanda – Dean, Epe Campus & Department of Agricultural Science
- Dr. Khadeejat Kareem-Ibraheem – Coordinator, Department of Animal Sciences
was approved during LASU’s 143rd Statutory Governing Council meeting, following a six-week investigation prompted by a formal petition from Taofeek Adekunle of the Take It Back Movement.
🚨 Offences Committed
🔴 Prof. Abanikanda
- Sexually harassed female students
- Forced final-year students to work from 6:30 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. under inhumane conditions — no rest, food, or shelter, even during rain
- Verbally abused and threatened students and colleagues
- Collected unauthorized payments from staff and students
🔴 Dr. Kareem-Ibraheem
- Withheld over ₦10 million from farm produce sales
- Diverted the funds into her personal bank account
- Failed to fulfill key responsibilities tied to her role
📜 LASU’s Verdict
The university found both staff guilty of gross misconduct and violation of the institution’s 2017 Conditions of Service. According to Registrar Emmanuel Fanu, their actions:
“Betrayed the ethics, responsibilities, and institutional integrity expected of LASU staff.”
⚠️ Why This Matters
LASU’s decision to fire both lecturers sends a clear zero-tolerance message on sexual abuse, corruption, and academic abuse of power — a signal long demanded by students and the public.
