The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has officially released the results of the 2025 mop-up Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) conducted on Saturday, June 28, 2025.

According to a statement by Dr. Fabian Benjamin, the board’s spokesperson, 11,161 candidates who participated in the mop-up exercise can now access their results.

Why Some Candidates Still Can’t Access Their Results

Dr. Benjamin clarified that several candidates are currently unable to view their results due to non-compliance with the board’s result-checking procedure.

“Candidates who are not able to access their results have been found not to have fully complied with the instruction to send ‘UTMERESULT’ (as one word text) to 55019 or 66019 using the same phone number (SIM) used during registration for the UTME,” he stated.

Candidates in this category are advised to use the exact phone number they used during registration and follow the result-checking SMS format strictly.

Update on Fake Admission Letter Syndicate

The statement also provided a comprehensive update on the fake admission letter syndicate first exposed in 2024.

Key Developments:

  • 5 kingpins of the syndicate were apprehended by the Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Centre (NPF-NCCC).
  • The case is currently under prosecution at the Federal High Court, Abuja, in Inspector General of Police vs. Effa Leonard & 4 others.
  • The syndicate was caught producing fake JAMB admission letters for unsuspecting candidates in exchange for payment.

Impact and Fallout

  • A total of 17,417 candidates were initially flagged as beneficiaries of the fake letters.
  • By May 2025, 6,903 candidates who had minor discrepancies were cleared after verification.
  • 10,514 candidates remain flagged and referred to designated police investigation offices nationwide.

Breakdown of Status:

  • 5,669 candidates were found to have knowingly procured fake admission letters.
  • 4,832 candidates attempted to bypass JAMB’s procedures and used the syndicate’s services while their schools were still processing legitimate waivers (from 2017–2020).
  • 13 candidates were flagged due to errors or omissions in their records.

Institutions Involved (1 or 2 flagged candidates each):

  • Bayero University, Kano
  • Enugu State University of Science and Technology
  • Federal University of Technology, Akure
  • Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti
  • Ramat Polytechnic, Maiduguri
  • Yaba College of Technology
  • Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago Iwoye
  • Osun State Polytechnic, Ire
  • Ben Idahosa University, Benin City
  • Obong University, Obong Ntak
  • University of Ilorin

The 13 candidates have been directed to rectify their anomalies and are now eligible to print their updated admission letters.

Additional Leniency Granted

  • 1,532 candidates claimed they were not aware that their admission letters were processed through fraudulent means.
  • Since their schools later validated and confined their admissions properly, JAMB has issued a strong warning and condoned their cases.

Ongoing Investigations

JAMB confirmed that 3,300 candidates are still under scrutiny for possibly engaging in undisclosed or illegitimate admission practices.

Dr. Benjamin reiterated:

“Our screening continues. Any candidate found culpable in examination or admission fraud will face full prosecution under the Examination Malpractices Act.”

Final Note

Candidates involved in the 2025 mop-up UTME or those affected by the fake admission scandal are advised to regularly check their emails, JAMB CAPS, and official channels for updates.
