History and Growth
Kwara State Polytechnic was officially established following the enactment of Kwara State Edict No. 4 of 1972, which empowered the institution to offer studies, training, and research in various disciplines including arts, sciences, engineering, management, and education. The polytechnic began operations in January 1973 with just 110 students and has since grown significantly, offering a variety of diploma programs across several disciplines.
Over the years, the institution has been governed by various edicts, including Edict No. 21 of 1984, No. 13 of 1987, and No. 7 of 1994, which have shaped its administrative and academic structures.
Leadership
In October 2019, Governor Abdul Rahman Abdul Razak approved the appointment of Dr. Abdul Jimoh Mohammed as the new Rector of Kwara State Polytechnic, succeeding Alhaji Mas’ud Elelu. Before his appointment, Dr. Abdul Jimoh Mohammed was the Deputy Rector (Academics) at the Federal Polytechnic, Offa. He holds two doctorate degrees, including one in Metallurgical and Material Science from Witwatersrand University, South Africa, obtained in 2016.
