WAEC Subject Combinations for Sociology

Sociology deals with the study of human society, the social life and relationship of man and the pattern of social behaviour, as well as their causes and consequences.

It is a four year programme. At the completion, you’re awarded a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) or Bachelor of Arts (B.A) in Sociology. If you’re looking at studying sociology after secondary school, here are the recommended WAEC subject combinations

  • CRS/IRS
  • Biology
  • Civic Education
  • Literature-in-English

Other Electives base on strength and preferences

  • Geography
  • Agricultural Science
  • Computer Science
  • Accounting
  • Commerce

School Requirements

Five credit passes including English Language, Mathematics, History/Government, Economics and one other course.

Sometimes, some schools requirement might be slightly different from the general requirement, in that they have special and additional requirements. Make sure to always check if your school of choice has a special requirement.


Plateau State University requires ‘O’ Level credit passes in English Language and three Social sciences or Arts subjects and at least ‘a pass in Mathematics.

AAU accept Mathematics as one of the UTME subjects.

PAAU accepts English Language, Mathematics and two  others from Government or History, Economics, Geography, Commerce and Agricultural Science.

EKITI and ABUAD require Government/History plus two  other subjects. 

BSU accepts any three subjects from Arts or Social Sciences. 

LASU requires Government/History, Economics/Commerce and any other Social Science subject.

DELSU requires two Social science subjects and any other subject. 

FED-LAFIA requires Economics, Government or History, and any other Arts or Social Sciences Subject.

BUK requires Government or History plus two (2) other Social Science subjects.

UNIABUJA requires three Social Science or Arts subjects.
