WAEC Subject Combinations for Computer Science

Are you looking at studying Computer Science in higher institution after your secondary school? If you are, among the couple of things you should get right, first on the list is your choice of subject combination in your West African Senior Certificate Examination (WASSCE or SSCE).

It is very important that you get your subject combinations right to avoid friction with your choice of  institution and to boost your chances of getting admission.

Computer Science as a field of study deals with the theory, design, development and application of computer system and all the fundamental principles of computing. As an undergraduate course, it spans through a period of four years after which you’re awarded a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree at completion.

Subject Combination

Core subjects

  • English Language 
  • Mathematics 
  • Physics
  • Chemistry

Two of these

  • Further Mathematics
  • Statistics
  • Biology

Other Electives base on your strength and preferences:

  • Economics
  • Geography
  • Civic Education
  • Computer Science
  • Data Processing

School Requirements

School Requirement.
A minimum of five (5) credit passes in your prerequisite subjects and in three or four other subjects are required.

University of Nigeria, Nsukka particularly requires that in addition to the University’s entry requirement, candidates for Computer Science programme must have credit in English Language, Mathematics, Physics and any two subjects from Chemistry, Biology, Further Mathematics and Statistics in WASC, SSCE, GCE, NECO or their equivalent examinations in at most two sittings.
