Nursing Science is a field concerned with the care of patients, families and communities in order to promote health, prevent sickness and manage
Various health conditions. It provides individuals with the knowledge and skills necessary to provide high quality healthcare in the hospitals while working side-by-side with doctors and other healthcare professionals.
In Nigeria, Nursing Science spans through a period of five years after which you are awarded a Bachelor of Science in Nursing certificate, BScN or BSN. To practice as a Nurse, you must take the licensing examination to become a Registered Nurse (RN) upon graduation from the university or during the course of studying.
If you wish to study Nursing Science in higher institution, here is the first thing you must get right: subject combinations in your WASSCE/SSCE.

Prerequisites
- English Language
- Mathematics
- Biology
- Chemistry
- Physics
Three of these:
- Civic Education
- Agricultural Science
- Animal Husbandry
- Economics
Other Electives you you can add base on your strength and preferences:
- Computer Science
- Geography
- Data Processing.
This subject combination also applies to Midwifery.
School Requirement
Nursing Science is a highly competitive course. A minimum of five (5) credits in your core subjects along with three or four subjects of your choice.
