ServiceNow is a U.S.-based software company providing a cloud-based platform that helps businesses manage and automate their internal processes. Known for its digital workflow solutions, ServiceNow enables enterprise operations to become more efficient, scalable, and adaptive. The company is part of the Russell 1000 Index and the S&P 500 Index.
Meaning and History
ServiceNow's branding has evolved significantly over time, especially the logo, which reflects the company’s shifting focus and the growth of its capabilities. The 2018 update to the ServiceNow logo is seen as a pivotal moment in the company’s visual identity, closely tied to its acquisition of Parlo, an AI-driven brand focused on natural language processing.
2012–2018: The Old Logo
Founded in 2003 as Glidesoft by Fred Luddy, ServiceNow initially worked on developing software in relative obscurity, with Luddy being its only employee for the first few years. By 2006, the company had rebranded to ServiceNow, hired additional staff, and secured crucial funding for expansion.
The original logo used a simple, text-based wordmark where the company’s name was split into two parts: "Service" and "Now." The color differentiation between the two parts created a visual distinction. The word "Now" was bolder, using a red color that stood out in contrast to the muted gray of "Service." This provided emphasis and hierarchy in the design. Additionally, the "O" in "Now" was replaced by a stylized "on/off" button, subtly connecting the logo to the company's tech-driven products and services.
2018–Present: The Updated Logo
ServiceNow’s rebranding in 2018 introduced several changes, notably the redesign of the "O" in the logo. The new “O” was a ring with a piece of its lower part removed, subtly resembling a human form. This alteration emphasized the company's renewed focus on human-centered design and user experience, putting people at the core of the brand's mission rather than technology alone.
Another significant change was the shift from a bright red palette to a more subdued color scheme. The wordmark now used a darker shade of gray, enhancing legibility and creating a sophisticated contrast against the white background. The central feature of the updated logo, however, was the new shade of green for the "O." This green was softer and more refined, suggesting the company’s evolution into a more mature and innovative tech player.
The typography of the ServiceNow logo also evolved, with the letters becoming bolder and more angular. The updated font looked more serious and businesslike, giving the brand a more professional appearance while maintaining its modern and sleek identity.
Colors and Font
The colors in the ServiceNow logo are now more subdued compared to the previous version, with a refined, tech-inspired palette. The dominant gray tones reflect a business-oriented, mature approach, while the green “O” introduces a calm and innovative touch.
The updated font is more angular and heavier than before, improving readability and reinforcing the company’s more serious, enterprise-focused image. The previous sleek, rounded font has given way to a more structured typeface that exudes confidence and reliability.
The revolution of the ServiceNow logo mirrors the company’s growth and transformation into a leading player in the enterprise workflow automation space, emphasizing both technology and the human experience.
